World Book Week

Last week, on Thursday 2nd March, we celebrated World Book Day at Ark Swift. Over a few days, we ran lots of ‘booky’ activities to celebrate reading, books and all things fun and fictional!

From a read-a-thon in the library to book quizzes, the children showed how much they enjoy reading across the school. We even had a surprise visit from Jake Bidwell, a QPR player, who read with a small group and answered some questions from the children.

Also, as part of the day, we raised over £140 for the charity Book Aid which works in sub-Saharan Africa to raise the profile of reading by supporting and developing libraries.

Miss Young , English Lead at Swift, said: “Pupils and teachers across the school enjoyed World Book Day. Ark Swift is a reading school; this is just the start of a number of events and strategies to encourage reading for pleasure.”
